OUR INSPIRATION

Our name is inspired by the flower Jasmine whose exotic fragrance, elegant stature and deep cultural meaning has earned it the coveted position of “flower of choice” widely across the globe. Jasmine has become synonymous with the unity, purity and innocence of love, and is commonly used in various festivities and religious ceremonies. The pure white color, simplicity and aroma of the Jasmine flower has inspired us to reach out and provide you with a unique gastronomical experience with our tasty food, service and ambience.

Rikhi Pandeya

Chef Rikhi Pandeya grew up in Nepal in humble surroundings with a deep passion for travel. Many of Rikhi’s family travelled far and wide as Chefs to various countries. Inspired by this Rikhi followed their steps and started his career working with the tandoor and moved to Delhi landing at the Taj Delhi, where Rikhi went on to win the coveted “Taj Culinary Award”. He found an opportunity with Asian cuisine working in Shangrila, Delhi’s premier Asian Cuisine restaurant. This stint and introduction
to Asian Cuisine was the beginning of a culinary journey for Rikhi. His travels to Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia inspired and ignited his passion and romance with Asian Cuisine. His travel bug took him to Dubai and then to Bermuda working in Asian restaurant kitchens. Landing in New York Rikhi was taken under the wings of acclaimed Chef Navjot Arora – Chef/Owner of Chutney Masala , an acclaimed MICHELIN BIB GOURMAND restaurant, voted the Best of West Chester New York 6 years in a row! This experience fine tuned Rikhi’s culinary skills. The two of them teamed up and created Sambal – a Thai – Malay restaurant on the banks of The Hudson in Irvington NY. Chef Rikhi Pandeya is also actively involved in the community was spotted by Kunal Lamba and featured on his TV show Khaana Peena Gaana.

Navjot Arora

Chef Navjot’s romance with Southeast Asian cuisine was kindled by many trips to Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia. Spending weeks immersed in authentic Asian gastronomy invigorated and excited his passion.

Having seen diners in Irvington enjoy a bold and vibrant Indian and Asian Cuisine for the past many years, he felt confident that they would be an eager participant in his dream to introduce the intricate flavors of South-East Asian cuisine in this dynamic Westchester community. This dream was realized with the help of Sushil Malhotra, Chef Arora’s partner, mentor and guide. The feather in our cap is our collaboration with Chef Rikhi Pandeya. Their combined expertise ensured that we stay true to our roots as an Asian dining experience while continuing to create and innovate.

Having two restaurants Sambal and Chutney Masala , an acclaimed MICHELIN BIB GOURMAND restaurant, voted the Best of West Chester New York 6 years in a row! Chef navjot Arora was looking to spread his wings and expand – the opportunity that Jasmine created was an ideal match of his talent and the local community need for this speaciality food! Chef Navjot Arora’s active involvement and commitment to the community by participating in various food drives and feeding the needy, also featured on the “Beat Bobby Flay” TV show. Chef Navjot Arora is a Judge on the “ShopRite Cooking Star” a TV show that identifies and rewards talented people.

Romesh an avid foodie from South Jersey with deep ties in the community joined up with Rikhi Pandeya and Navjot Arora to  bring Jasmine together and serve the local community a mouth watering savory, spicy, zesty, flavorful menu. Having travelled  extensively throughout South East Asia and experiencing the food and culture, Romesh along with Rikhi and Navot are excited  to meet the needs and desires of the community with a unique gastronomical experience with our tasty food, service and ambience. 

Looking to spread their wings Rikhi, Navjot and Romesh honed in on South Jersey to bring their combined Culinary skills and  experience and opened Jasmine – Desi Asian Grill. With a deep passion of service and humility Rikhi, Navjot, Romesh and their  team invite you and look forward to treating your palates to a journey of flavors’ that would leave you returning for more. and  culture.
